Ángeles Vela del Río
She holds a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Universidad Iberoamericana and a Master's in Business Administration from Tecnológico de Monterrey.
She began her professional career in the private sector, focusing on quality and production areas, and later moved into consulting for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Administration, Human Resources, Finance, Operations, and Human Capital. She was in charge of the ISO 9000 Quality System at a consulting firm. Later, she worked in the government of Coahuila in Economic Development, overseeing SMEs, successfully securing funds and financing for projects at the federal, state, and municipal levels, and spearheading the formation of the silver cluster and the Information Technology network in the region.
Subsequently, she joined the Nuevo León ICT Cluster, CSOFTMTY, where she was responsible for Funds and Financing as well as Business Relations. She later directed the Human Capital Division, overseeing mobile application contests like Apporta and programs for converting engineers from other fields into IT. Currently, she is the General Director of the Nuevo León ICT Cluster, focusing on initiatives in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Human Capital, and Markets within the Information Technology ecosystem.
She has promoted initiatives within the cluster to increase the number of women in the industry, particularly in Mexico, offering programming training, certifications, and general IT courses. For over seven consecutive years, she has championed technology education programs for over 4,000 children and young people, encouraging them to pursue STEM careers from an early age.
She serves as a Board Member and Commissioner for various organizations, including the Nuevo León Council, Venture Café Monterrey, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Monterrey Government, the Technological University of Santa Catarina, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Municipal Council of Government Innovation in Monterrey, the Strategic Committee on Innovation and Talent of IncMty, among others. She also leads the Technology-Based Committee of Invest Monterrey and serves as Treasurer of MXTI (the Mexican IT Cluster Network). She writes monthly technology articles on cases developed in Mexico for a magazine.
Within the cluster, together with her team, they have achieved several milestones: the global ESCA GOLD certification, the establishment of a Cybersecurity Center, agreements with the Pacific Chamber and Santa Clara University in California, the Export Merit Award from COMCE Northeast, recognition from COMCE National, presence in a Harvard Business School success story, and representing 230 IT-related organizations.
She is passionate about using technology to help build a better country and a more equitable and happier Mexican society.
